Fullerton Police Department Restructures to Place Emphasis on Community Engagement and Public Information – New Public Information Officer
Since his appointment, Chief Dunn has been seeking to enhance the way the Department engages with the community and maximize the effectiveness of Department staff. For the past year, plans have been developed to focus efforts on Community Engagement and Public Transparency through robust Public Information efforts.
In early August, Chief Dunn selected Corporal Billy Phu as the new Public Information Officer for the Fullerton Police Department. In his new role, Corporal Phu will report directly to the Chief of Police and work in unison with a Community Liaison Officer. Together, they will be responsible for identifying opportunities to connect and engage with our diverse community while disseminating timely information about the Fullerton Police Department. Corporal Phu is also tasked with ensuring our compliance with transparency legislation. These three areas are the cornerstone of building community trust and meaningful partnerships.
While attending California State University, Fullerton, Corporal Phu joined the Fullerton Police Department in 2006. After serving as a Police Cadet, Corporal Phu was hired as a Police Officer and began his career in Patrol. Corporal Phu has since worked as a Field Training Officer, Personnel and Training Officer, Gang Unit Detective, and as a Crimes Against Persons Detective.
