Press Release - Single Vehicle Fatal Traffic Collision
On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 at approximately 1:05 AM, Fullerton Police Officers responded to the area of Harbor Blvd and Brea Blvd regarding a single vehicle traffic collision. The caller stated the vehicle was on fire and had possibly “rolled over” prior to officers’ arrival.
Upon arrival, officers located a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan that was fully engulfed in flames, unfortunately with the driver still inside the vehicle. The Toyota Sienna had come to rest up against a building that was under construction where Harbor Blvd and Brea Blvd converge, an area commonly known as the “Brea Y”. Fullerton Fire immediately responded to put the fire out.
Preliminary investigation reveals the Toyota Sienna van was travelling northbound on Harbor Blvd. As it approached the “Brea Y”, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a traffic signal pole on an island in the intersection, causing the vehicle to spin out of control. The vehicle then struck a traffic signal box, sending the vehicle up an embankment where the vehicle came to rest near a building under construction at the “Brea Y”.
The driver, a male (unknown age), was pronounced deceased immediately at the scene. Release of the male’s identity is pending notification of next of kin and it will be released by the Orange County Coroner.
The driver’s speed and the use of alcohol and/or drugs are factors under investigation as possible contributors to the cause of the collision.
This investigation is on-going, and Accident Investigators have not yet located any witnesses to this tragic fatal collision.
