Pedestrian killed in Fatal Traffic Collision
On Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at approximately 6:01 AM, Fullerton Police Officers responded to the area of Brookhurst Street and Valencia Drive regarding reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located a 65-year-old female with significant, life threatening injuries lying in the number two lane of southbound Brookhurst Street south of Valencia Drive. Fullerton Fire responded and pronounced the female deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a black, 2015 Mazda 3 four-door sedan, driven by a 26-year-old female, was travelling southbound on Brookhurst Street just south of Valencia Drive when it struck the 65-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing westbound across Brookhurst Street from the Fullerton Armory. The 65-year-old female victim was not crossing in a crosswalk at the time she was struck.
The 26-year-old driver remained at the scene and she is cooperating with Investigators. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
Witness statements indicate the 65-year-old female victim was walking a bicycle across the street at the time she was struck by the vehicle; however, when officers arrived on-scene, the bicycle had already been stolen by an unknown person.
The bicycle has evidentiary value and Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has information regarding the identity of the person responsible for the theft of the bicycle as well as the physical location of the bicycle itself.
The investigation is on-going. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Fullerton Police Traffic Bureau at (714) 738-5313. Those wishing to provide information anonymously can call the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1(855) TIP-OCCS or can visit their website at www.p3tips.com/913.
