6-year-old female killed by Drunk Driver while playing in front yard - DRIVER ARRESTED
On Saturday, February 17, 2018 at approximately 2:14 PM, Fullerton Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of Lombard Street regarding reports of a child being struck by a car.
Upon arrival, officers located a 6-year-old female with significant, life threatening injuries lying on the east sidewalk of Lombard Street. The 6-year-old female was immediately transported to a local trauma center where, tragically, she was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Maximino Delgado (52, Anaheim) was travelling eastbound on Gage Ave, in a 1990 Toyota 4Runner, and he attempted to make a southbound turn on Lombard Street. Delgado lost control of the vehicle as he tried to make the turn and he drove onto the sidewalk, striking the 6-year-old female who was outside playing at the time. Delgado continued to drive southbound on the sidewalk after striking the 6-year-old victim, then he re-entered the roadway and collided with a vehicle parked on Lombard Street, where his vehicle came to a stop.
Delgado remained at the scene and cooperated with Investigators. On scene investigation indicated that Delgado was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Preliminary breath alcohol tests revealed Delgado’s blood alcohol content to be .23% BAC.
Delgado was placed under arrest for felony DUI, felony vehicular manslaughter, and driving on a suspended license. He was transported to the Fullerton City Jail and he is being held in lieu of $2 million dollar bail.
This tragic event is yet another stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence.
