Fatal Motor Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Collision
On Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at approximately 5:40 PM, Fullerton Police Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle striking a pedestrian in the 1700 block of West Bastanchury Road. Witnesses on scene at the time of the collision immediately began life saving measures by providing chest compressions on the male while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, a 22-year-old male, lying in the street wi...th serious, life-threatening injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle. Fullerton Fire Paramedics arrived a short time later and, unfortunately, pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests the 22-year-old male had been playing basketball at Bastanchury Park immediately prior to the collision. He left the park on foot and ran eastbound across Bastanchury Road towards a nearby housing tract. The 22-year-old male, who was not utilizing a crosswalk, was struck by a 2003 Infiniti (driven by a 20-year-old male) that was travelling northbound on Bastanchury Road in the number 1 lane as he attempted to cross.
The 20-year-old male driver remained at the scene and he is cooperating with Accident Investigators. Multiple witnesses also remained at the scene to speak with Investigators as well.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision and the investigation is still ongoing.
