Orange County Sheriff's Academy Memorial Run
Today, Orange County Sheriff’s Academy Class #225 held their annual Fallen Officer Memorial Run. Each year, OCSA recruits vote on a fallen officer to dedicate their run to. This year, the recruits voted to honor one of Fullerton PD's fallen officers: Officer Jerry Hatch.
On June 30, 1975, at approximately 9:30 PM, Officer Hatch, 23-years-old and only two months out of the academy, was on his way to work when he pulled over to extinguish a car fire on the 91 Freeway near Beach Boulevard. Upon returning the extinguisher to the trunk of his vehicle, he was struck by a drunk driver. Sadly, Officer Hatch died the following day. Officer Hatch left behind a wife, Ruth, a 2-year-old daughter Audrey, his parents Dorothy and Paul, and six siblings.
The Fullerton Police Department, along with numerous members of the Hatch Family, attended and participated in the Memorial Run. We were honored to attend, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to OCSA Class #225 for nominating Officer Hatch and keeping his memory alive.
