Suspicious Circumstances

On Sunday, 6-21-15, officers responded to the 400 block of W. Amerige Avenue and 200 block of N. Yale regarding flyers left on the front lawn of residences. Officers collected approximately 100 separate flyers or leaflets from the two locations of poor photocopy quality that had been placed in Ziploc bags with a small rock and a tootsie pop.

The leaflet was supporting the “Orange County” KKK and listed the KKK’s national website and hotline. The leaflets content listed unconfirmed statistics about “black” and “hispanic” crime trends with a reference about “lies from the Jewish media” and suggested the reader join the KKK.

Although these leaflets are attempting to enlist support for a well-known racist organization, the content makes no specific threats.

The department will follow up to make sure there isn’t any additional activity that rises to the level of a crime or public safety concern. The department is aware of two other incidents in the county similar to this one in Santa Ana in January of this year and in Orange last year.

Those with any information about this incident or those wishing to provide information anonymously can call the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1(855) TIP-OCCS or to their website at www.occrimestoppers.org.
