Man arrested on suspicion of lighting house on fire Police arrested a man suspected of trying to break into cars and lighting a house on fire while a family was sleeping inside, police said Thursday.
Adam Duane Taylor, was arrested shortly after starting the blaze at in the 1400 block of W. Houston about 5 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
The owners of the home, who work nights, awoke when the smoke alarm sounded and escaped without injuries. But the blaze destroyed their home.
Witnesses said they saw the suspect flee from the backyard of the home. He was also spotted attempting to break into cars, officials said. It was unclear what led Taylor to light the blaze. He is not from the neighborhood, police said.
Police encouraged residents to regularly change the batteries in their smoke detectors.
"The good news here is that nobody was injured, and we have the suspect in custody," said Sgt. Jeff Stuart.
